
PRATTVILLE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY THIRD GRADE
THIRD GRADE CURRICULUM

Bible: Third graders use the Christian Schools International curriculum: Calling of God's Tribe. Students will study the life of the Israellites as slaves, nomads, and conquerors of Canaan.

Reading/Language Arts: Classes use the McGraw Hill Treasures curriculum. Students develop a deep understanding in reading fluency comprehension strategies and skills, spelling/vocabulary, and grammar. Students are provided instruction to meet their reading level and are taught in small and whole groups. Trade and chapter books supplement the curriculum. Third grade students begin cursive instruction.

Environment: Science and Social Studies are taught mainly through the use of thematic integrated units. Life, Physical, and Earth science are taught as well as the steps in the Scientific Method. A focus on America is taught in Social Studies class. Students are taught American Presidents, about America's founding documents, important American landmarks, and map skills.

Math: Third grade Mathematics is taught using Pearson's EnVision curriculum. This curriculum has a strong base in problem solving. Students are introduced to multiplication and division facts. Goals for the class are to make sense of mathematics. Students will learn number sense, basic algebra and geometry, measurement, and probability.

Allison Deason Alison is originally from Selma. She graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Her masters degree is in Elementary Education from University of West Alabama. She is married to Mark and they have three boys that attend PCA. She enjoys doing anything outdoors and traveling. At PCA, she likes that she can teach the Bible, have smaller class sizes, and be in a friendly atmosphere. Alison's favorite Bible verse is Phillippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." |
