iPad2 Parent Information

Cost

The most cost effective way to implement this program is to enter a lease program with Apple.  In order to pay this lease, the family of each student that is provided an iPad for school/home use will be assessed a $250 technology fee at the beginning of each school year.  This fee can be paid over 10 or 12 months in the same way you pay the facility and activity fees that PCA already assesses.

Mobility

Your child will be able to take their iPad home. Their curriculum will be downloaded in a pdf format onto their iPad.  This will allow your child to view information from their textbooks even if you do not have wireless internet access at home.

Protection

Controls will be in place on the iPads that will force all internet access to go through the PCA system, regardless of location.  The PCA system already has stringent filtering to protect students and staff.

Use of Pre-owned iPads

Your student will have to use iPads leased through Prattville Christian Academy.

We must be able to control the software, applications, and the protective services for these iPads that will be connected to our PCA system.  By allowing the use of personal iPads, we lose this most valuable control and the safety we know you expect.

Accessories

Other than a power adapter and cable provided by the school, students and their families will be responsible for the purchase of all extra accessories desired.  Students will be required to have an appropriate iPad2 case that closes over the screen in order to protect the device.

Charging Devices

It is the students’ responsibility to charge their iPads at home each night and bring them back the next day. Students will need to bring their iPads each day to school just as they would pencil and paper. 

Changing/Deleting Settings

Students will be trained on the proper use of their iPad and will be told of the ramifications of improper use.  PCA will continue to invest in the best possible control software to limit the student's ability to reconfigure their Ipad .  In the event that a student changes any of the pre-installed settings or deletes grade level curriculum, you will be assessed a fee for restoring the device to its original settings.

Tracking iPads

Each student will be issued an iPad2 that has a unique serial number.  Writing, decorations, or other personalization will not be allowed on the iPad itself.  Just like textbooks, the iPad, cable, and power adapter will be taken up at the end of the school year and the cost of any damage or missing parts will be charged to the student’s account.
